Chapter 12: “Cry of the Hunters”

My title “Hide or Die”

Perspective: Ralph

Dear Diary,

It has been a crazy life and I sure will remember this until I die. I can still have dreams about what happened I can feel the open dripping blood coming out my rib when I sleep. Every time I sleep I remember the day the hunters had their dark side take over them. The ululation still goes around my head as I remember how I was really close to dying. Oh I wish I could have confronted Jack its almost my fault Simon and Piggy have died. I could have confronted Jack and none of these riots or deaths would have happened. The diddle moves by Jack always caused us trouble making us betray each other as he made our whole group break up and go our on ways and make two separate tribes. The distended pain I had in my body had me going crazy but I didn't turn all evil as I stayed the same and I was myself not trying to show off. If I would have only confronted Jack face to face things would have been better. We would be working as a complete tribe helping each other out. As I confronted the Naval officer it was like confronting a brick wall as it stood tall ready to attack. During the last hours on the island I thought this would be the end of me as I had to think on my toes with cuts and blood dripping it was hide or die as I couldn't have anything else to save unless a miracle. So my miracle was the naval office with his epaulettes shinning on my face it felt like a god shining on me. I felt like giving up like before how I gave up my chances to trying to confront Jack but this time I had to go until I had nothing in me.

Ralph hides inside a thicket which is under a bush as he was getting pounded by boulders he had to escape.

Samneric joined Jacks tribe because Jack tortured them to join it.

Roger prepared a spear with two pointy ends as they did the same thing for the pig so Jack wanted to kill Ralph and cut his head and put it on one end.

They throw boulders at the thicket and poked him with spears to force him out as Ralph did escape.

Ralph finds a group of soldiers along with a naval officer as that saves his life from escaping.

Jack try's to become the innocent guy and wanted Ralph to go in hot water because when the naval officer said Who's in charge here Ralph said his name and Jack just stayed quiet.

Ralph takes responsibility for everyone's actions for when the naval office asked who's in charge here.

The naval officer said that he expected better responsibility from a young group of British people.

Chapter 11 Blog Post

1. In the beginning of the chapter, what does Piggy tell Ralph to do with the conch?
Piggy ask Ralph to call an assembly to bring everyone together even Jack’s tribe to come and talk. However, Ralph does not blow the conch.

2. What reason will Piggy give Jack for the return of his glasses?
That he can’t see but now that piggy is dead, he can’t his glasses back. However, Ralph demanded Jack to give them back but he didn’t

3. What does Ralph declare their appearance will be when they approach Jack?
To show the conch hoping that it will remind Jack’s followers of his former authority to change their decision to know what tribe they should join.

4. Who challenges the boys on their approach to Castle Rock?
The guards tell them to leave but they don’t so they throw rocks at them.

5. When Jack appears, what has he been doing?
He has been torturing some littleuns and been hunting.

6. What does Ralph call Jack that provokes a fight?
Ralph calls Jack a lying bloody thief.

7. What happens to Samneric after the fight?
They are than forced to join Jack’s tribe as Jack forced them to. They torture the twins to make them join.

8. What is Roger doing during Piggy’s plea for a return to decency?
He pushes the boulder down and lands on Piggy’s head and Piggy is than dead.

9. Write a STRONG PARAGRAPH about who is responsible for Piggy’s death and why.
The person responsible for Piggy’s death is definitely Roger because nobody else helped him he’s the one who pushed the boulder down. Truculently Piggy is struck on the head without cessation from the force of the rock the boulder than knocks Piggy out. Along with the talisman, also known as the conch is than broken also and the delirious tribe was quiet. As Roger single handedly killed Piggy, Roger is now become like Jack showing their pure dark side doing the wrong instead of the right and correct thing to do.

Chapter 10 blog post

Dear Diary,

I cannot believe that Piggy and Ralph do care about me. Because if they would not be talking about my death they would not really have had cared about me. I am glad I joined Ralph’s side but unfortunately, I can do nothing now since I am dead. I know that they should have had a feeling about what could have happened why they could not just distract or talk with Jack for another minute I could have been alive. They never showed that they cared about me but it ends up they do, Jack really just uses people, and I feel like Jack used me.

I am glad that I left Jack and his people because that probably could have been me being tied, up, and beat up by Jack, instead of Wilfred. He could have killed him he just tortures the littleuns and sometimes the biguns to get what he wants. Without anyone in his tribe he would be powerless people are just joining him because he shows toughness when he is not tough. I wish I could just go down to where Jack is and sneak up on him and give him some of our paint that we get from him. I cannot believe him though I was the beast in disguise. I say he is the beast in disguise his evil mind shows that he is like a beast that scares people and gets people to be scared and follow his commands. Just because I may seem weird does not mean that I am the beast.

I say that Jack is just using Maurice and Roger. He can make them do what ever he says and still get away with it because he is their chief. I just do not understand why Ralph is not trying to fight back, can’t he see what they did to me. However, it is also Ralph who is peace and love and Jack who is war and breaking hearts. Roger killed Piggy with that trap he is mainly brainwashed by Jack turning all evil, turning against each other, and not realizing who actually helps him.

As I was hovering over the night watching my friends Ralph and Piggy, I knew Jack was up to something and as I seem him attack them and brutally beat them up and take Piggy’s specs away I could not imagine if I was still alive how things would have turned out. Now Ralph is mainly useless to survive with Piggy specs and he does not really have anyone in his tribe. I probably would have hid somewhere on the island where Jack cannot find me or else I would have to join him. Now the mood has changed worse into a war mood since I died as everyone is starting to go crazy and fighting against each forming their own alliances. The fact that they killed is really dumb because they let their dark side take over them and they were being controlled by Jack who could have stopped them.

Chapter 8 & 9 Blog Post

Lord of the Flies Paragraphs

The scene that caught my attention and mainly was building the climax higher for me and making the book more intense was the part where the Lord of the Flies talks with Simon. This part was very interesting as the Lord of the Flies was telling Simon that they thought they could kill the beastie and hunt it and as it ends up saying its inside everyone especially Simon. What it meant that it is inside everyone that everyone was going to their dark side fighting with each other just to hunt or kill one thing that did not really prove strength or leadership. Since everyone mainly fought against each just to kill the so-called “Beastie”, they end up splitting up and forming to new tribes. It also showed that everyone has his or her dark side and a good side inside of them. As the Lord of the Flies threatens Simon about things, it also tells him to go warn that Jack was going to attack. That clue I thought to myself that it was a dark and rainy night and darkness is mainly evil and sometimes death and a dead thing talking made it seem something or someone was going to die. I believe that William Golding had a good idea using a dead animal to show that with destruction and violence it will not move you forward to any good things it would make things worse. In Chapter 9 since Simon goes back to the tribe to try to tell them what was, going to happen what ends up happening is that Simon dies and that was a warning for Simon to be careful.

Simon’s Death

I say that Jack is responsible for the death of Simon. A quote that supports my claim is where Jack leads his tribe into saying their little chant, which is “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood”. As you can see there, he is the one leading his tribe into attacking and without thinking they just let their dark emotions take over and attack Simon who they thought was the beastie and killed him. I say that it was Jacks fault for killing Simon as if they would have stopped and waited for a little bit more, they would not have killed Simon but since they were thirsty for blood and all, excited they went all out on Simon without thinking. Therefore, it shows that the dark side within people is another person inside you who you cannot control. Now think about this if you were hungry and ready to attack anything near you would you think when all your emotions are running wild you probably would not and that is what happened. Because Jack was the one leading his group to attack, he could have stopped them since he is the chief of his tribe.

Chapter 7: Shadows and Tall Trees
“Why Me?”

Perspective: Piggy

Today was not a dun day I had to take care of all the kids and watch every move all you heard was cheering and cheering and it was crazy. Since the sagely Ralph left me I think it would be a good thing because he would be able to like recognize that I can be a mature and smart adult than what happened last time when I was with the children. The impervious Simon seems like he is up to something he doesn’t really communicate as much he just says something than walks away. He’s very suspicious I need to know what he’s up to because at night they said he was walking around at night. The brine shell is a symbol for us as it brings us back together. As when there is a meeting we come back to update on things but the past couple of meetings we have been having don't look that great. I see Jack starting to change a little bit as it impresses me but why does he have to be such a um I don’t know a bully I guess he has nothing better to do but just boss us around and go his own way. The war between us feels like rugger as we are like getting each other back by saying stuff and fighting over some stupid stuff, I just want to settle this and end up living in the end. As everyday minute of the day starts to change the mood changes as some people go to scared, to happy, happy to scared. Since our last meeting I need a sign from Jack, Ralph, and Simon to know when they are coming back because I don't want to be alone out here forever. I keep thinking that they won't come back or that the beastie might come. Now that it is dark I haven’t got a word from Ralph like when they are coming back I’m scared because they say the beastie is out there and it’s me and the littleuns that’s it and against a beast. I need some food I am starving a lot I don’t know if I can last any longer. It’s getting cold and we need more huts and like something to cover us up I just can’t talk anymore it’s cold, windy, and really getting on my nerves as I'am scared. I just need to rest, see how tommorrow ends up and what they really find. Good night.

What is the game the boys play after spearing the pig? Who spears the pig? Describe the mood of the boys afterwards.

They start poking Robert the back end of the spears. They chant their little killing chant. Ralph spears the pig I was impressed. Everyone was crazy and pumped up for blood like sharks.

Jack suggests, “You could get someone to dress up as a pig and then he could act, you know, pretend to knock me over and all that.” Robert said that they need a real pig because it has to be killed. What does Jack suggest as a substitute? What does this foreshadow?

They use a littleun and they poke him with the back end of the spears it was crazy I felt pumped up and ready to go hunt. I think a littleun may be killed or lost its very scary.

What evidence did the boys find to prove that there is a beast? (Why are they so gullible?)

They saw the aviator, which is not really the best, and they are so young their imaginations are very wild and creative.

I feel much pumped up to go hunt already I just feel like running out right now and kill anything I can see to get the feel. However, I felt scared because one of us can just go on a rampage and kill someone.

• What sign comes down from the grown up world? The aviator comes flying down from his parachute. We are sure that he is dead. But were not completely sure.
  


• Why aren’t the boys aware of it? Because we are more focused more on hunting and staying alive and I really know whats happening.
  


• Why are Sam ‘n Eric so terrified? Because they saw the beast which I don't believe that they actually saw.
  
• How do Sam ‘n Eric describe the beast? It has Wings, Claws and sharp teeth but they are very young so they don't know much about it. Their imagination is wild.
  


• What is the attitude of the boys when going off to look for the beast? I' am terrified because I don't know if we should go hunt the beast but if we do a lot of pros n cons we would have. The littuns will stop whining about it but its a big risk because we don't know how big the beastie is.
  
• Is there really a beast? How do you know? Well from what we heard from Sam n Eric
  that there is but I don't really believe because its near our fire and I'm really scared right now.
  

  Do you feel that you are still the strongest leader on this island? No I feel that Jack is taking over my authority which I don't like what he is doing. But ill fight until I win my authority.
  

  What kind of pressures and stress do you feel as the leader responsible for the boys? I have to supply them with food and make sure they don't run away I'm like the father of twenty children its really hard. I can barely sleep because I have to think of new ideas for rules and help.
  

  
  Do you like being a leader? Not really as it stresses me out a lot and I have to act like an adult and I'm not ready to grow up.
• In Chapter 5, Ralph cries, “If only they could get a message to us…if only they could send us something grown up….a sign or something,” (Golding, 83). That the aviator comes from the sky to give us a sign that a war or an event is happening to us and I' am really scared. I have to go hunt and see what it really is what they say it is.
  

Dear Diary,

I'm the chief of this island there's really a lot of consequences and pros and cons about hunting the beastie and also like making new rules because I really don't want to lose Jack because he has the weapons to hunt and I don't. The only we can stay together if I give up leadership but that would really be dumb of me because I'l be selfish so right now I'm really confused. My opinion of hunting the beastie I'm diffidently scared and don't know what to do or say right now. Mutinously I'm waxy about how Jack is being a little bossy and not respecting my authority of being chief. I'm embroiled with Jacks and Piggy's conflict and I just want to split there's many things that could happen if I give up my position in chief. Now I really want to come back home but I wonder what my family is thinking about right now. If they miss me or they don't care about but my big question is if they are alive. I know Piggy's life has been rough because of the name calling they do to him, and he is an orphan I can't imagine living without my actual parents there. I think I may need to call another meeting about the beastie to get everyone straight about what our next next plan is to do we already know everyone is mainly scared except Jack but I dont believe him. Now that we know that Sam n Eric have found the supposively called "Beastie" we have to check if it is actually the beast. I don't want to get into any other fights I have had enough already with Jack but if he wants to hunt it, its up to him because since he wants to leave and not respect my authority of being cheif I don't care. Its really hard being with him because there's alot of things we can get from him like hunting help but sometimes hes just disobidient. My main thing is getting that Levithian rumor about that beastie over with.
